Summer Reading Program Registration is Open!

ReadingLog15Registration is Open for the 2015 Summer Reading Program. Our theme this year is the “Wild, Wild West!”  Sign up at the Library THIS WEEK (Tue/Sat 9-2 & Wed/Thu 3-8) and pick up your Reading Log (pictured) to track your reading minutes! These logs are for preschool through 6th grades!

Can you read a minute for every mile on the Oregon Trail? If so, you’ll read 2,170 minutes this summer! I challenge all area kids to try it! There is a map and chart in the middle of the reading log to help you track your progress. Larger maps can be picked up at the Library too!

For 7-12th grades, pick up your bookmark to track your reading. Just 15 hours of reading earns you a gift card to the Marcus Cinemas or Barnes & Noble! You can earn up to 3 this summer!

If your kids are signed up for Summer School at Prairieview, I am coordinating to get them down to the Library for some of the programs so they can still participate in them. But do keep track of their reading ALL summer (I will send home logs with them on Wednesday this coming week of Summer School) because prize day is August 11th and Summer School will be done by then!

We’ll wind down our weekly programs with a Gold Rush Day on August 11th. Kids will get to pan for gold and turn in their nugget (and cash in reading minutes) for a prize!

Then we’ll close out the summer on August 18th with a Good Old-Fashioned Fun Day!  Join us for games and fun from the past!

And for 3rd-7th grades, something NEW this year: weekly hangout and games every Thursday at 3:00!  Drop by and stay cool in our central a/c and play some goofy games, fun games and silly games!

Community  members are welcomed to stop by and enjoy the programs as well; we’re always needing volunteers also, so please consider coming to help out (or sending your high school kids to earn community service hours!).

See you Soon at the Library!
