Looking Forward to Summer!

Paper sack What does a paper sack have to do with summer, you might ask?

Well, this summer, our kids’ reading/activity program will be focused on all the ways that this paper sack, and other everyday items, can be recycled, re-used and up-cycled! Welcome to “Build A Better World!”

We’ll be having Tuesday morning programs (10 a.m.) for any kids 4-12 who want to participate in fun activities and demonstrations about living better on our Earth. We’ll have snacks from Miss Bonnie again, our super fun Bonnie Flick who comes up with *the* most amazing things for us to nibble on!

We’ll have a summer-long campaign to collect as many aluminum cans as possible (drop-off at library will be available) and we’ll utilize the proceeds from that drive to support a charity that will help children and small communities somewhere else on our Earth.

In addition to that and the weekly Tuesday morning programs, we’re going to have our Wednesday “Hangout” again! From 3-5 p.m. every Wednesday, kids can pop into the library to participate in a fun-but-independent activity or craft (all Earth-friendly, of course) and hang out with other area kids while having some refreshments! Feel free to stop by, even if you do come to the Tuesday morning programs, as our focus is a bit different on Wednesdays.

Stay tuned for further announcements about the programs, including a date for a special Skype presentation from a well-known children’s author whose books about our planet and how we live on it are the basis of many of this summer’s program themes!!! How exciting is that!

Oh, if your kids attend summer school at Prairie View Elementary, they’ll be participating again on Wednesday mornings, so your kids won’t be missing out! I haven’t yet heard if Stoddard Elementary will be participating, but hopefully they’ll come by at least a couple times!

And of course, here’s the pitch: EVERY summer program requires countless hours of thought, preparation and dedication. Our volunteers are amazing, but we could always use a couple fresh new eyes, ears and brains to help out even more!!! Please consider joining our SRP gang! If you want more details, email the library @ If you’re passionate about the Earth, maybe you’d even want to plan the activities and lead them for a particular week? How about “hanging out” with the kids on Wednesdays and doing the activities with them?

Whatever you’re willing and able to offer, we’ll find a way to use your talents!

Hope to see you soon at the Library!!
